3. My Heart Could Be Yours

Sam Setton departs from his cool vocal style in many tracks on this project, particularly in “My Heart Could Be Yours.” Right from the start, he delivers emotional, high-pitched vocals, passionately expressing to his partner how her presence is a present and his readiness to give his heart completely to her. The track’s brisk pace and heartfelt delivery make it feel like the ultimate love letter.

This song could’ve been called “Obsessed.”

2. Obsessed

A track that will resonate with those who feel unworthy.

In “Obsessed,” Sam Setton is introspective and self-critical. Over an uptempo instrumental with tons of bright elements, Sam reflects on losing out to another man for a girl he’s into. While he urges himself to slow down in love, he also wonders why luck never seems to be on his side in these situations. Overall, I appreciate Sam’s honesty, the high-pitched vocals he showcases on the hook, and the multi-layered sound of the track.

1. TLV

I don’t think I would want to leave Tel Aviv either.

In “TLV,” Sam Setton sings about falling in love with Tel Aviv, a city he compares to New York. Beyond its attractions, the Isreali city feels like an escape to him, and he has connections with people who care about him living there.

“TLV” features a soothing instrumental that blends a great drum pattern, what sounds like bagpipes, and an easygoing tempo. It perfectly captures the essence of a vacation in the vibrant city of Tel Aviv.

RGM RATING

(B)

Sam Setton’s album 8 Years New Tears reminds me of Bazzi’s Soul Searching, one of my all-time favorite albums.

One of Sam Setton’s greatest strengths as an artist is his ability to delve into personal topics like relationships and self-awareness with remarkable vulnerability. That said, throughout 8 Years New Tears, Sam fearlessly portrays himself as someone who easily falls in love and acknowledges his mistakes in pursuing love. His raw vocal deliveries and instrumentals, which blend elements of alternative pop and electro-pop, complement these sentiments perfectly. Overall, the album is a pleasant body of work that will resonate deeply with anyone interested in exploring themes of love, travel, and the many things in between.
