DDG’s flexing hits differently because he really made his money all on his own.
Fatherhood has a way of making you grind your ass off. For instance, even though RGM stinks (Hey, Kendrick Lamar and Drake made this year in hip-hop music flow weird as hell), my son motivates me to post something new every day.
That said, DDG’s consistency in releasing new music, especially with the added responsibilities of fatherhood, is commendable. It’s clear that his child with the wonderful and sweet Halle Bailey has provided a new source of motivation, pushing him to maintain his presence in the music scene.
In the past few months, DDG has released some pretty solid singles, such as “Shoot Up Your Block,” “Going To The Top,” and “Top” with Swae Lee and his frequent collaborator Blueface. Today, DDG returned to the music scene with a new single called “She Ain’t Leaving.”
In “She Ain’t Leaving,” DDG continues his usual bragging, discussing his addiction to Neiman Marcus, making over ten million through blogging, and having women on leashes. The song features a bass-booming yet gentle beat, paired with the same slow-to-fast melodic rap style the Pontiac rapper has been using since the extinction of dinosaurs.
For fans of his music, “She Ain’t Leaving” offers a satisfying continuation of the themes and styles that DDG has become known for. It’s a track that fits well within his discography. As he continues to balance his career and personal life, listeners can expect more music that reflects his evolving perspective and unrelenting work ethic.
