DJ Premier Calls On Lil Wayne, Big Sean & Rick Ross For “Ya Don’t Stop”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

This track would’ve been an even bigger hit in 2010, too.

The word longevity is way too underrated, especially in the music scene. Being relevant for more than five years is a huge accomplishment; being relevant for more than ten years is outstanding.

Today, a new track called “Ya Don’t Stop” hit streaming services. It features Lil Wayne, who has been poppin’ since 1999; Big Sean, who has been poppin’ since 2009; Rick Ross, who has been poppin’ since 2005; and DJ Premier, who has been poppin’ since 1894.

I just gave a standing ovation to DJ Premier for crafting the beat that drives this track. “Ya Don’t Stop” features an action-packed beat with a ’70s buddy cop vibe. Over it, Rick Ross delivers a verse rich in basketball references and a laid-back delivery, Big Sean brings a punchy chorus emphasizing his drive to win, and Lil Wayne pays homage to Freeway from Roc-A-Fella with a killer flow. Wayne steals the show on this one.

Lil Wayne has been rapping like he has something to prove lately. I love it.
