Lil Yachty & Ian Team Up For “Hate Me”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

A match made in jit heaven.

I can’t believe I’ve lived long enough to see Lil Yachty become the big homie of the rap game. When he first came out, he was the leader in the clubhouse in jit-inspired music, and now, though his music is still among the jittiest in the room, he’s the one who is the OG.

The reason I bring this up is because there’s a new artist floating around named Ian. I covered his album a few months ago, and all I can say is that it sounds like some prime jit s**t. Interestingly, no major features appeared on the album, so I wasn’t sure if he was a satirical rapper. That changed today.

Today, Lil Yachty decided to collaborate with Ian on a new single, “Hate Me.” I kind of hate it.

In “Hate Me,” Lil Yachty and Ian are on the same page: a braggadocious, rebellious one. Throughout the track, they dismiss their critics, flaunt all the amazing things their music money has bought them, and emphasize that they remain the same genuine individuals they were before entering the game.

This track’s beat is excellent—it’s packed with bass and has a vibrant energy. I also really enjoy Ian’s choppy flow and carefree delivery. As for Lil Yachty, even though he sometimes sounds like he’s on the verge of upchucking, there are moments where he really slides. Overall, I’m surprised by how solid I found this joint.
