Tory Lanez Drops “Wish I Never Met You (Prison Tapes)”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

No, seriously, how did Tory Lanez pull this s**t off?

If you have been living under a rock these past few months (Hey, I hear you can get a new build under rocks these days), you know that Tory Lanez has been locked up for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. While I feel like his case was a big deal a few months ago, life has gone on, and I feel like people are starting to forget about him.

Ensuring that never happens, last week, Tory Lanez decided to release a few tracks from his Lost Tapes, “L.M.B.B” and “Girls In The Room.” Today, he dropped a new single called “Wish I Never Met You (Prison Tapes).” Apparently, the track is from a forthcoming project he created from jail.

You said, “Let love grow,” but not no more
You took time to grow, stop blowin’ up my phone
And now I’m lo-lo-loaded with emotions, tryna find out how to cope

Tory Lanez in “Wish I Never Met You”

More Heat: Tory Lanez drops “L.M.B.B” and “Girls In The Room.”

In “Wish I Never Met You (Prison Tapes),” Tory Lanez reflects on how things that seem beneficial can sometimes turn out to be detrimental, especially when they involve people. He recounts meeting a girl he was deeply connected with, who ultimately left him, leaving him feeling like a shell of his former self.

This track reminds me of “Things I Should Of Said” from Tory Lanez’s Daystar album. Both share a pleasant, uptempo, and slightly island-inspired vibe. On this particular track, Tory delivers level three passionate vocals—he’s capable of turning up the intensity to level 8—along with a steady flow and what feels like authentic emotions. Given that the song was recorded from jail, I think it’s very impressive.
