YG – JUST RE’D UP 3 (Album Review)

YG is completely unchained in “JUST RE’D UP 3.”

TOP 5

5. KNOCKA

I literally said “holy s**t” while listening to YG spit on this track.

One consistent trait of YG is his boldness and creativity in his deliveries, and he pushes both to the max in “KNOCKA.” Over a booming beat with a unique opera-like sample in the background, YG showcases an intricate and consistent flow, touching on killing both vaginas and rivalries. He also reminds us that he’s getting just as much money as you know who. What stands out most about the track is how YG blends a variety of sounds in a way that’s truly innovative.

4. ONLY FANS (Ft. Jaye Anderson)

Jaye Anderson dropped 50 points in this track.

Honestly, the main reason I added “ONLY FANS” to this top 5 list is because of Jaye Anderson. In the track, he delivers a Bryson Tiller-like performance powered by a very infectious chorus, a commanding delivery, soft vocals, and lowkey ratchet lyrics. As for YG, he slides on the track using this carefree tone and hits us with brash bars that speak on his nonchalant approach to f**king with sluts. Both YG and Jaye sound pretty solid over the triumphant club beat.

3. STUPID (Ft. Lil Yachty & Babyface Ray)

We use the American language in very strange ways.

As expected, YG, Lil Yachty, and Babyface Ray use the word ‘stupid’ in a positive light in this track. They boast about their “stupid” necklaces, their “stupid” ability to attract models, and making “stupid” money. For me, the best part of the track is the hook—it’s catchy as hell. The second best thing is the beat, which hits harder than Tank Davis. The most interesting aspect of the track is the variety of flows, with most hanging on for dear life, especially Yachty’s. All in all, I think this is a pretty decent banger.

2. LOVE MAKE

YG had Saweetie and Kehlani. He’s the GOAT.

So, while this track is credited solely to YG, two key contributors deserve recognition. First and foremost, Mustard is behind the smooth, sensual production (you should’ve known because it has snaps). Additionally, the song heavily samples Avant’s classic R&B track “Makin’ Good Love.” Without these two elements, I’m not sure how big this track would be. That said, YG’s contributions shouldn’t be overlooked. He delivers raw rap verses that vividly describe what he’s down to do when he’s presented with a bad b*tch with a nice body. All in all, I can absolutely see this track doing extremely well on the radio (remember that device?).

1. MALIBU (Ft. Tee Grizzley & G Herbo)

“MALIBU” is the hardest track on this project.

“Malibu” is driven by a menacing beat that channels Detroit’s raw energy with a touch of Cali influence, setting a serious tone. YG comes through with a hard-hitting hook and aggressive verse, fully embracing his s**t-talking and playa persona. His presence on the track definitely establishes the right vibe. Tee Grizzley and G Herbo also bring their A-game, with Tee Grizzley spitting with a frantic flow about his hustling mentality and staying strapped, while G Herbo delivers a sly verse about his encounters with women. Overall, the track flows seamlessly, and everyone sounds natural and in their element.

YG really don’t give a f**k about censorship.

Calling YG an unapologetic rapper doesn’t even begin to capture his essence, and JUST RE’D UP 3 drives that point home. Throughout the album, he talks about shooting up opps, getting dome from sloppy chicks (and much more), stealing chicks from his enemies, and kicking it with dangerous people. While many artists touch on similar themes, there’s something about YG’s carefree tone and vibe that truly elevates s**t to another level.

The beats on JUST RE’D UP 3 are a treat, offering a mix of authentic Cali, club-ready, and smooth R&B-inspired vibes (Hell, you even get some island s**t). What stands out is how YG stays true to his cocky persona, no matter the beat, while also experimenting with bold flows when the moment calls for it. The dynamic combination of these beats and YG’s raps ensures that the album never feels repetitive or dull.

JUST RE’D UP 3 is packed with guest features. YG taps Ty Dolla $ign and Kalan.FrFr for the R&B vibes (though, to be honest, I wasn’t too keen on the love songs). He also collaborates with a range of rap artists, both from outside California, like Tee Grizzley, G Herbo, and Lil Yachty, and within the state, including Mozzy and Larry June. Overall, the features add a solid dynamic to the album.

JUST RE’D UP 3 is a good listen. However, I am not sure I am on the same time as YG at all based on his content. That definitely impacts the listening experience.
