Lowkey, Kehlani and Lucky Daye both delivered some pretty solid albums this year. Kehlani dropped CRASH, a diverse project that garnered mixed reviews from critics, while Lucky Daye released the fantastic ALGORITHM (We can all agree that ALGORITHM is fantastic, right?).
Apparently, Kehlani wasn’t content with just one album this year—they are gearing up to drop another one titled When We Wait 2 later this year (If you remember, When We Wait was a mixtape she released in 2019). The first single from the project is “When He’s Not There,” featuring Lucky Daye.
In “When He’s Not There,” Kehlani and Lucky Daye plot to meet up when their partners aren’t around, but let me just say this: if I happen to walk in on that plan, someone’s getting hit with a shovel. That aside, no matter how you feel about the song’s subject matter, there’s plenty to enjoy. Personally, I love the silky-smooth R&B production, Kehlani’s seductive vocals that almost make you buy into the mischief, the infectious chorus, and the way Lucky jumps in sounding like a guy who’s both nervous about getting caught and eager to risk it all. Overall, I respect the vibe of this track.
