Pharrell, Lil Yachty & Swae Lee Travel To The “Doodleverse”

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Pharrell has been churning out tons of new music these past few weeks.

Pharrell still has a lot left in the tank. Maybe (Just Maybe) Drake calling him out a few times in the past few months has motivated him to bring his ass back in the booth. Aside from dropping music from soundtracks (Which he’s always done), he’s also linking up with major artists like Lil Wayne, A$AP Rocky, and Tyler, The Creator, and is prepping to release a somewhat “Best Of” album really soon. Today, Pharrell returned to the music scene with a new single called “Doodleverse.” It features Lil Yachty and Swae Lee.

Respectfully, what is this s**t? First off, the song is called “Doodleverse”—what even is that supposed to mean? On top of that, letting Lil Yachty belt out a chorus where he sings his ass off feels like a questionable choice, especially given the track’s bizarre theme. Swae Lee and Pharrell make things better when they come in, but not enough to save the overall vibe. The futuristic production is solid, and that’s probably the only reason I’d consider giving it another listen, though I’d prefer a remix with entirely different artists.

Lowkey, 85% of the s**t Pharrell is involved with these days is trash (I’m sorry, I must say it. This song made me angry).
