Lil Baby Delivers “Insecurities”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Did Lil Baby go 2/2 today?

Now’s the time for Lil Baby to lock in his place in hip-hop history. Is that a bold statement? B*tch, I don’t think so! After My Turn took him to new heights, it felt like he lost some momentum—understandable, given the massive expectations people had for him. But after hearing some recent tracks and collaborations, it seems like he’s ready to bring back that same hunger he had at the start. Word is, Baby is gearing up to release a new album, rumored to be called WHAM. Today, the first two singles, “5AM” and “Insecurities,” hit streaming. I’ll dive into “Insecurities” below.

Unlike in “5AM,” Lil Baby doesn’t show much vulnerability in “Insecurities.” Instead, he comes across as a big dog, confidently claiming he can give his woman whatever she wants, a la T.I. He also brags about his lavish spending habits and extravagant purchases. Sidenote: Nothing can be more ridiculous than purchasing Tupac’s car.

Do you know what’s interesting? I think Lil Baby flows really well on this track, delivering something steady and smooth over the bass-heavy, action-packed trap beat. S**t, when he enters his zone in certain moments, that s**t sounds tight as f**k. However, there’s something about the track that feels a bit stale and uninspiring to me. Maybe it’s because it sounds like something Baby has made before—I’m not entirely sure.

Lil Baby talks like a billionaire. I respect it.
