I can’t help but wonder what led to this song’s existence…
I’m more than comfortable saying Nicki Minaj has earned a spot in my top 10 rappers of all time list, ranking somewhere above Rick Ross. Her rapping skills are seriously underrated, but her cultural impact is undeniable. She’s worked with almost every major name in hip-hop—Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Drake, Eminem, and more—and has also connected with the younger generation, from Lil Uzi Vert to Cardi B. Today, one of her most unexpected collaborations just dropped on streaming: “AGATS2 (Insecure)” with Juice WRLD.
Despite being a sequel to “All Girls Are The Same,” this song feels a bit scattered in terms of content. In her verse, Nicki Minaj aims at her female competition for the 2,124th time and references popping pills, while Juice WRLD talks about gargling codeine and splashing babies on folks. It’s really in the chorus where the melancholic, heartfelt lyrics come through.
What I absolutely love about “AGATS2 (Insecure)” is Juice WRLD’s highly infectious and emotional chorus, which perfectly matches the track’s vibe. As for Nicki Minaj, I think her rapping is slightly above average, but I could completely do without her singing. Overall, the track feels a bit too choppy and strange for my taste.
Nicki, please stay away from those pills. I don’t want you looking like Kodak Black out here.
