Rating: 3.5 out of 5.Are y’all still checking for Tyga?
It’s hard to discuss the history of hip-hop without acknowledging Tyga. While he may not have reached the pinnacle of superstardom, he solidified his position as a household name, signed to Young Money, and arguably earned a spot as one of the best club rappers of all time. Even though his prime might be behind him, Tyga remains prolific, consistently releasing new music. Just a few days ago, he dropped the single “Spooky,” and now he’s back with two fresh tracks: “Don’t Be Fooled” and “Mmphh.”
In “Don’t Be Fooled,” Tyga channels a suave, black 007 persona, firing shots at his enemies, brushing off women who don’t meet his standards, and flaunting his wealth unapologetically. What stands out about the track is its cold, robotic instrumental, perfectly complementing Tyga’s punchline-heavy, almost mechanical rap delivery. All in all, the song is a bit of a strange listen.
“Mmphh” rides on a bass-heavy club beat so powerful it could knock the Cheerios off the top of your fridge. Over this explosive production, Tyga delivers cool, high-energy bars about his fast cars, undefeated streak, and success with women. While Tyga’s confident verses stand out, the real star of the track is the beat—it’s unbelievably good.
Tyga has to give us an album soon.
