It’s been an amazing year for both of them!
I do need to admit something that might come as a surprise given how much my articles are about her: I’m not really a major swifte. While I think her music is brilliant, you won’t see me scrambling for tickets, even though I do love her. The reason I write about her so much is that, as I mentioned before, this year has been truly incredible for her. My previous article was about Beyoncé’s win at the Billboard Music Awards, where she won a lot, but Taylor Swift was also highly decorated that night. She won 10 awards, including Top Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album for The Tortured Poets Department, Top Female Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Hot 100 Songwriter, and even more.
The Grammy winner commented with a pre-recorded message, as the show was not broadcast live: “Thank you to the fans, because Billboard is counting your stuff,” she excitedly said. “They’re counting what you listen to, the albums you’re passionate about. I count these as fan-voted awards, because you guys are the ones who care about our albums and come see us in concert. Everything that’s happened with the Eras Tour and ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ I just have to say thank you.”
While Taylor Swift is no stranger to awards, one artist who’s been rising is Chapel Rowan, who received her first-ever win in the category of Top New Artist. She was honored by the award, but a bit confused. “Thank you, Billboard, for naming me your Top New Artist of 2024; this is so awesome,” she said with a laugh. “It’s taken a long time to be considered a new artist, but it’s amazing to be recognized,” she continued, having been making music since 2015. “All these years of hard work are truly paying off, so thank you for being a part of that.”
Fans were very happy for both, with one chiming in about Swift on X (formerly known as Twitter), saying, ‘She’s so powerful. I’m not even a Taylor Swift fan, but I’m genuinely inspired by what she’s achieved.’ Another fan was excited that the award also happened to be an early birthday gift for the star, adding, ‘Happy early birthTAY to the world’s favorite top-winning BBMA artist!” Roan’s fans were excited for her as well. ‘Congratulations, Chappell! So well deserved!’ a fan responded. ‘THEY DIDN’T LIEEEEE,’ another fan chimed in. ‘This is just the beginning for you, Chappell!’ a third fan added.”
