Honorable Mention. Wood Would

Did he say his weed smells like a turd?

Man, it got really tight at number 5. There were so many tracks I felt could’ve ended up on this list. Ultimately, “Wood Would” just missed it. The main reason I added the track is because of the beat—it has this glitchy, wavy style that’s a lot of fun to get lost in. Also, when Thugger gets into certain pockets on the track, he absolutely kills it (particularly when he sounds like a computer spitting out information). Overall, I would’ve liked this track a lot more if it were more organized.

5. Freaky

This track gives me serious old-school Travis Scott vibes—it’s actually pretty spooky.

Before I start this review, I have to ask this question: Is someone getting their ass kicked or falling over some drum equipment in the background? S**t is a little weird. Thankfully, it does not impact what Young Thug does on the track. What does he do, you ask? Deliver one of his most conventional-sounding choruses, hits us with some aggressive, explosive verses, and comes across as a competitive dude ready to slap folks with his money.

4. Take Kare (Ft. Rich Gang & Lil Wayne)

We need to take a moment to appreciate the fact that we got a collaboration between Young Thug and Lil Wayne.

Lil Wayne is undeniably a stand-up guy. Despite the rumors that Young Thug was somehow connected to the incident involving shots fired at Wayne’s tour bus years ago, he still chose to collaborate with him. That alone deserves some respect.

As for the track “Take Kare,” it lives up to the gravity of the moment. The production is dramatic—something you’d almost expect to hear in a theatrical play. Over this powerful beat, Thugger delivers two contrasting verses: one with a steady, measured flow and another that’s as unpredictable as my New York Jets. Lil Wayne, on the other hand, strikes a balance between steady and unsteady, diving into themes of loyalty to his girl, which, in true Wayne fashion, includes buying her extravagant gifts and flipping her like mattresses.

Sure, the track has a slightly choppy feel, but honestly, that doesn’t take away from its impact.

3. Quarterback (Ft. Quavo, Offset & PeeWee Longway)

Are you not entertained!?

This track could’ve easily had a hook featuring someone repeatedly shouting, “Are you not entertained?” and it would’ve fit perfectly. The good news, though, is that Young Thug, Quavo, Offset, and PeeWee Longway all deliver performances that go beyond just catchy hooks.

Thugger kicks things off with a rebellious verse and chorus, complete with a spazzy flow and lines about smoking weed over pot (What the hell does this mean?). Quavo, Offset, and PeeWee Longway follow up with ferocious verses, covering everything from being in the field to having women work 9-to-5 jobs for them and pulling up in luxury cars. The spooky, explosive beat ties it all together, giving everyone the perfect backdrop to shine.

2. Rarri (Ft. Young Ralph)

Hold up, Ralph Wiggums is on this s**t? LFG!!!

Young Thug is completely off the rails on this track. Over a bass-heavy beat with alarms blaring like they’re meant to clear out rooms, he slurs his way through wild, rich gibberish. He also talks about serving crack, wishing for Gucci Mane’s freedom, and even slicing heads off. Normally, it would be outrageous to listen to, but here, it somehow comes together and sounds fire.

As for Ralph Wiggum, he tries to match Thugger’s energy, but his deeper voice just can’t keep up with the chaotic flair Thug brings to the track.

1. Best Friend

“Best Friend” might be the track that put Young Thug on the map.

What’s hilarious about “Best Friend” is that, despite its riveting beat that could easily belong in a show like Unsolved Mysteries, we get a completely unserious version of Thugger. He raps about having a best friend he puts things in her face, all while throwing different rap styles at the wall, hoping something sticks. But honestly, it’s Thug’s unpredictability and that slick chorus that make this track one you can’t help but adore. It’s wild, it’s fun, and it works perfectly.

In Slime Season, we get the exact version of Young Thug we love: someone who couldn’t care less about structure, switches between several animated styles, and isn’t afraid to tackle traditional trap beats and elements. He also sneaks in some clever punchlines, using them to speak on his extravagant lifestyle, which he seems to have acquired through both legal and illegal means, as well as his love for every part of a woman. All in all, Slime Season is a fun rollercoaster ride that cemented Young Thug as one of the boldest trap rappers ever.
