Turns out all Lil Baby needed was a Pharrell beat and a reminder that hunger still sells.

Lil Baby could be on the verge of one of his biggest chart moments in years. According to early projections, “Dead Fresh” is expected to debut inside next week’s Billboard Hot 100 top 25, making it one of 2026’s strongest hip-hop debuts. More importantly, it would mark his best solo opening on the chart since 2022.

The success doesn’t come as a surprise if you’ve heard the song. “Dead Fresh” finds Lil Baby sounding noticeably sharper, more focused, and far more engaged than he has on many of his recent releases.

While his talent has never been in question, some of his newer material has occasionally lacked the urgency that helped establish him as one of rap’s elite voices. Even though WHAM and The Leaks arrived with plenty of anticipation, neither project carried the same staying power as his earlier catalog.

Pharrell Williams deserves plenty of credit here. His production injects life into the record, giving Lil Baby an energetic backdrop that encourages him to elevate his performance. Let’s see if he can build on this (S**t, let’s sign a petition that forces Pharrell to produce every track on his next project).
