“BALLONNERISM” garnered some impressive numbers last week.
For the hip-hop world, last Friday was a bittersweet moment. Mac Miller’s estate released BALLONERISM, an album that might very well be the final project we ever get from the beloved Pennsylvania rapper. The good news is that the project, which includes a guest appearance from SZA, has been warmly received by fans and critics alike.
According to multiple reports, BALLONERISM sold approximately 70,000 units in its first week, earning the No. 3 spot on the charts (SZA’s Lana album and Bad Bunny’s Debi Tirar Mas Fotos album took the top two spots) Notably, HITSDD reports that 45,000 of those were physical copies. If these numbers hold, the album’s debut week would rank behind Blue Slide Park, Circles, and Watching Movies with the Sound Off in terms of first-week sales.

Posthumous albums can be a bit eerie, but I feel like this one gave us a deeper understanding of Mac Miller’s mindset and a little more insight into his artistry. I love how intimate it sounds, with jazzy undertones that make it an exceptional listen. While it probably won’t rank among the highest-selling albums of the year, it will undoubtedly be one of the most impactful for those who consider themselves hip-hop fans.
