This will probably annoy Lil Wayne some more.
One of the most talked-about but quickly forgotten stories leading up to Super Bowl LIX was the controversy surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s selection as the halftime show performer. At the time, the Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers rapper was in a heated feud with Drake, which led to speculation that Jay-Z and Roc Nation were picking sides—choosing Kendrick over Lil Wayne and his Young Money camp. The situation escalated when Wayne expressed his frustration, even hinting at potential retaliation, before later stating that he and Kendrick had resolved the issue.
In an interview with Nola.com, Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez announced that there were a few people Jay-Z was considering for performing on the stage, and one of those people was certainly Lil Wayne. Ultimately, Desiree said they believed Kendrick was the right choice for the show.

Do you know those two-minute reports the NBA does when a referee makes a mistake? This is what this feels like. Not including Lil Wayne as the headliner is one thing, but to then try to explain yourself on why you didn’t just feels like unnecessary damage control. I truly believe the Roc Nation team partially fumbled an opportunity here where Wayne and Kendrick could’ve been on that stage together. I just feel this rollout was a bit of a mess, and it’s none of the artists’ fault.
