TOP 5
5. Shoota (2018)
I usually hate when people say something “feels like a movie” when it’s not actually a movie—but “Shoota?” This s**t feels like a movie. The build-up is insane, and the dreamy production creates a vibe unlike anything you’d expect from Lil Uzi Vert or Playboi Carti—yet they both absolutely snap on it.
Uzi kicks things off with a ridiculously catchy verse, gliding effortlessly over the beat, while Carti comes in with an extended verse, rapping with a laid-back, boss-like energy that makes it clear he’s leveled up since the “Magnolia” days. This song captures three eras of Carti: his past collaborations with Uzi, his present love for heavy bass and trap vibes, and a glimpse into his future—where his sound is more cinematic than ever.
4. Playboi Carti – R.I.P. (2018)
Playboi Carti will go down as one of hip-hop’s greatest ragers, and some might argue that raging music truly began with “R.I.P.” On this track, he’s more chaotic and unfiltered than ever, recklessly flexing about snatching chains, stealing women, and getting fellatio.
Despite its production sounding like it came from a Casio toy (minus the booming bass, of course), the song is packed with Carti’s signature ad-libs, high-energy flows, and one of his most rebellious hooks to date. Honestly, just hearing the beat alone is enough to get the full Die Lit experience.
3. Sky (2020)
Whole Lotta Red is arguably Playboi Carti’s most acquired-taste album to date, but one of its most accessible tracks is “Sky.” On this song, Carti channels his inner Travis Scott, delivering an intoxicating melodic flow that makes it feel like he’s floating in a haze.
Lyrically, he embraces rolling up, living recklessly, and effortlessly pulling women. The track blends experimental and rockstar vibes in a way that transcends age, race, and culture—making it one of the standout anthems from the project.
2. wokeuplikethis* (Ft. Lil Uzi Vert) (2017)
Can you imagine the countless epic hip-hop moments we missed because Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert had such a rocky relationship? When I first heard “wokeuplikethis,” I honestly thought it was the start of an epic run as a duo.
With a bass-heavy beat by Pi’erre Bourne that’s undeniably catchy, Carti serves up one of his simplest yet most infectious hooks. His verse is actually clear and easy to follow, while Lil Uzi Vert delivers one of his best blends of rockstar trap. This track is just perfect in every way—combining the best of both artists’ styles.
1. Magnolia (2017)
“Magnolia,” released on April 14, 2017, was the first track by Playboi Carti that I added to my library. Initially, I was utterly baffled by the random karate ad-libs he threw in and how choppy his lyrics and flow were. But when I played the track through car speakers, the bass-heavy production (shoutout to Pi’erre Bourne) hit hard, and the way Carti rode that beat completely won me over, turning me into a huge fan of the track. A star was born starting with this track.
