Steve Lacy Delivers Chaotic Brilliance on “Nice Shoes”

Rating: 4 out of 5.
Steve Lacy Nice shoes

You never know what to expect with Steve Lacy.

Steve Lacy dropped his new single “Nice Shoes” on August 15th, and once again, he proves he’s one of the most unpredictable artists out right now. Every time I think I know where he’s taking a track, he swerves — and that’s exactly what makes his music so addictive.

“Nice Shoes” is equal parts random, chaotic, and almost comically honest, in that very specific Steve Lacy way. The track runs high-energy for most of its runtime, with bouncy rhythms and unfiltered lyrics that keep you hooked. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, it melts into a silky, soulful section that slows everything down and lets the groove breathe. Just as you’re settling into that vibe, he cranks the energy right back up for the finish.

The combination of wild, unhinged lyrics and playful unpredictability makes “Nice Shoes” the kind of song you’ll want to run back immediately. It’s a perfect reminder that Steve Lacy thrives in the unexpected — and we’re all here for it.
