Cedar Rapids rapper Jordan Burgett proves his lyrical depth and versatility on the dynamic, two-part single “medellín.”
Jordan Burgett might be a fresh name to some listeners, but his artistry speaks like that of a seasoned veteran. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native first caught my attention with his sharp lyricism on “R A X X X,” but it’s his latest release, “medellín,” that fully cements his place as a powerful new voice in hip-hop. With a commanding presence and a keen ear for production, Burgett delivers a track that’s both thought-provoking and electrifying.
“medellín” unfolds in two striking acts. The opening section rides a chill, boom-bap beat laced with a subtle melancholic edge, creating a reflective mood. Over this backdrop, Burgett delivers introspective bars about self-awareness, perseverance, and finding purpose, all while weaving intricate wordplay that demands a careful listen. The bridge transitions into a smooth, soulful chorus, giving the track a meditative pause before the energy shifts.
The second half flips the script, charging forward with trap-inspired production that hits like a club-ready anthem. Here, Burgett loosens his tone, spitting confident, brash rhymes while maintaining razor-sharp flows. This seamless contrast highlights both his technical skill and artistic range, making “medellín” a standout track that captures the duality of grit and introspection in modern hip-hop.
