Hip-Hop Hits Record Low With Only Four Songs on Global Spotify Chart

Hip-hop’s dominance is slipping, with only four songs on today’s Global Spotify chart—the fewest in its nine-year history.

Hip-hop is facing an unprecedented slump on the Global Spotify chart, with only four rap songs appearing on today’s list of the platform’s 200 most-streamed tracks. This marks the lowest ip-hop presence since the chart launched nine years ago.

For context, on the very same date five years ago, a staggering 56 rap songs occupied the chart. The steep decline highlights a dramatic shift in worldwide listening habits, where pop, Latin, and Afrobeats have increasingly dominated daily streams while hip-hop’s once-unshakable grip continues to loosen.

The lone hip-hop entries currently charting are: “Timeless” (2024), “No Pole” (2023), “See You Again” (2017), and “All The Stars” (2018). Strikingly, none of these are 2025 releases, and only one is a true solo rap record. For a genre that has traditionally been a streaming powerhouse, the absence of any fresh hits this year underscores the genre’s cooling momentum on a global scale.

Whether this is a temporary drought or a sign of deeper changes in listener tastes remains to be seen. But for now, the Global Spotify chart is providing a clear snapshot: hip-hop is in the midst of a historic slowdown.
