The Tallahassee legend opens up about loyalty, the industry, and keeping it real.
T-Pain isn’t holding anything back these days. During a candid sit-down with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay, the Grammy-winning hitmaker spoke on the illusion of brotherhood in the music industry—and he didn’t mince words. “Everybody is your brother while they can use you,” Pain said before adding, “F*ck DJ Khaled. Everybody done told me I’m your brother. Do not believe that shit.”
It was a raw moment, but not a surprising one from an artist who has always valued transparency over politics. For him, “brotherhood” isn’t a term to be tossed around casually—it’s something earned, not marketed.
Over the course of his career, T-Pain has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including Kanye West, Chris Brown, DJ Khaled, Akon, E-40, Flo Rida, Jamie Foxx, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Bow Wow, R. Kelly, Ludacris, Plies, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Young Cash, Yo Gotti, Usher, and Kehlani, to name a few. Ironically, many of these partnerships came during the height of his industry dominance—when everyone wanted a T-Pain hook, a remix feature, or his signature Auto-Tune magic.
Musically, Pain has been relatively quiet in the mainstream conversation lately, but not inactive. He recently returned with a new single, “Club Husband,” alongside guest features on Bryson Tiller’s and Joyner Lucas’ latest projects. He also found himself in headlines earlier this year after offering some blunt criticism about Drake’s longevity in hip-hop, which sparked a brief wave of back-and-forth commentary.
Whether he’s making jokes, speaking truth, or shaking tables with unexpected honesty, T-Pain continues to be one of music’s most genuine personalities. And if his message on Club Shay Shay made one thing clear, it’s that he’s done with the industry’s fake “brother” talk—and he’s fully embracing real, straightforward energy instead.
