A Boogie turns heartbreak into a hazy, late-night anthem.
A Boogie Wit da Hoodie has had one of the more unusual career arcs in modern hip-hop. Not too long ago, he was an undeniable A-lister — a melodic trendsetter whose sound was heavily imitated across the landscape. But somewhere after 2020, the momentum slowed. The music didn’t drastically change, and his style remained consistent, yet the overall buzz softened. Still, talent is talent, and A Boogie has always had enough of it to win people back whenever he really locks in.
This past Friday, he returned with a new single titled “Last Drink,” a record built around one of his most familiar themes: trying to numb heartbreak the only way he knows how — by drinking his problems away. The track carries a lonely, reflective energy, largely due to its dramatic production. It mixes moody melodies with stomping Jersey Club and drill influences, giving it a more restless pulse under Boogie’s emotional delivery. His vocals lean into that slightly whiny, vulnerable tone he’s known for, which works well for a song about drowning out the noise of lost love.
“Last Drink” may hit listeners differently depending on where they are in life — some will connect with the emotion immediately, while others might not find it as replayable. But whether you love it or not, it’s another reminder that A Boogie still knows how to tap into the raw, messy feelings that built his original fanbase. You decide where it lands for you.
