Drew Schueler Gets Reflective on “I Thought By Now”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A universally relatable pop gem that captures the frustrations and fears that come with feeling like you haven’t achieved your purpose.

Nashville-based Drew Schueler is a pop artist, songwriter, and producer known for impactful lyrics, soothing vocals, and a hands-on approach to production. He crafts each song with intention, ensuring every note, word, and sound carries meaning. Schueler’s latest release is the eight-track album Vulnerable For Once, which closes with the standout track “I Thought By Now.”

On Instagram, Schueler explained the mindset behind the project: “Before this project began, I knew I wanted to focus on being truly vulnerable and transparent. “I Thought By Now” is the perfect finale, from start to finish.” He added, “One of my favorite production moments I’ve ever made. The song may center around my self-doubt and insecurities, but it ends with my wife, manager, and best friend telling me, ‘you’re meant for this,’ which is all I need to hear. I may not have it all figured out, but I know I’m meant for this.

Built around an emotionally stirring blend of acoustic guitar and soft piano, “I Thought By Now” creates a delicate, intimate atmosphere. Lyrics like “Since I was a kid / I knew what I was meant for / Seemed like a gift but it’s a double-edged sword” reflect on ambition, self-doubt, and questioning whether sacrifices will ultimately be worth it.

Fueled by emotive vocals and a late, explosive surge of electronic elements that mirrors the song’s emotional release, Schueler delivers a universally relatable pop gem.
