BLACKPINK – DEADLINE (EP Review)

BLACKPINK

After spending time building their individual lanes, BLACKPINK return as a unit with DEADLINE — and the chemistry is still undeniable.

3. Champion

“Champion” leans more into alt-pop territory compared to the rest of the EP, but it still carries that signature BLACKPINK punch. The message is self-love, resilience, and reassurance. It’s very much “if I fall, I’m getting back up again” energy.

There’s something empowering about how straightforward it is. It’s motivational without being corny, girly without being watered down. It almost feels like a Disney anthem — but with sharper edges and more substance. It’s the kind of track you’ll scream in the shower or blast while getting ready. And honestly? We can always use more songs that make women feel unstoppable.

2. JUMP

“JUMP” dropped and the internet has not known peace since.

As the lead single, this track wastes zero time reminding everyone who BLACKPINK are. It’s fiery, confident, and explosive — the high-energy, hype BLACKPINK that fans fell in love with. The production is wild in the best way, built around a beat that practically demands movement. It feels massive, arena-ready, and perfectly aligned with its title.

This is the kind of song that makes you want to get up immediately. No thinking. Just vibes. Just power. It’s chaotic, confident, and undeniably fun.

1. Fxxxboy

This one is softer sonically but sharper lyrically.

“Fxxxboy” calls out messy behavior without sugarcoating it. The energy isn’t explosive — it’s controlled. Cold, even. The girls flip the narrative, essentially saying: you get what you give. If you move funny, don’t be surprised when I match that energy.

It’s about guarding your heart after being hurt. It’s about losing trust and adjusting accordingly. There’s a quiet power in that restraint. Instead of yelling, the song lets the disappointment simmer. And that makes it hit harder.

RGM RATING

(80%)

The EP “DEADLINE” balances high-energy, dance-heavy K-pop anthems with softer, more reflective moments. You get the explosive performance tracks built for stadiums and TikTok trends. But you also get subtler, colder breakup records that lean into emotional growth.

The overarching theme? Confidence. Independence. Self-love.

There’s a clear message woven throughout this project: I can love myself. I don’t need to shrink for anyone. I won’t let you hurt me twice. That kind of messaging, especially in mainstream pop, matters. It feels empowering without being preachy.

DEADLINE feels like freedom. It feels like friendship. It feels like stepping into a new era with sharper boundaries and louder confidence. You can see the growth — individually and collectively.

And honestly? The girls delivered the energy we were waiting for.
