Michael Jackson’s greatness continues to draw crowds.
Michael Jackson’s greatness has never really been debatable. If someone calls him the greatest musician ever, that is a fair argument. He had elite vocals, unreal performance skills, visionary creativity, and songs that refuse to age. Thriller alone gave us “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” and “Thriller,” three records that still cook speakers today.
Now his story is bringing fans to theaters in droves. MICHAEL, the new biopic starring Jaafar Jackson as the icon, opened with $40 million domestically on day one. The film also features Nia Long and Miles Teller. Fans were already excited after trailers showed Jaafar strongly resembling Michael in both movement and energy.
Those expectations clearly translated into ticket sales.
According to Discussing Film, the movie now owns the biggest opening day ever for a biopic and the biggest opening day of 2026 so far. Are you surprised? I’m not.
If I were Michael Jordan’s family, I’d be lining up the early meetings for his biopic right now.
‘MICHAEL’ has earned $40M in its domestic opening day.
