French Montana & Rick Ross Ride Verzuz Momentum on “Smoking pt. 2”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

“Smoking pt. 2” extends Verzuz energy into a smooth collaboration.

French Montana and Rick Ross step into “Smoking pt. 2” fresh off a Verzuz set earlier in the night, where French surprisingly came out on top. Despite the competitive framing, both artists seem to be in good spirits here, using the moment to extend the buzz rather than revisit tension. The track is built on a flipped take of Who Am I (What’s My Name?), giving it a nostalgic, West Coast-leaning foundation with a modern twist.

Over the instrumental, French Montana delivers the most presence, rapping with confidence and leaning heavily into his signature style, even mixing in some rough-around-the-edges singing. Rick Ross follows with a slick, wealth-focused verse filled with his usual luxury imagery and relaxed authority. The unexpected highlight, though, comes from Max B, whose chorus is intentionally sluggish but oddly infectious, built around drawn-out vocal ad-libs that stick more than they should.

Overall, “Smoking pt. 2” works because of its chemistry rather than perfection. French leads the charge, Ross adds polish, and Max B supplies the hypnotic hook that ties it all together into a solid, replayable collaboration.
