Drake really broke Spotify records with a song that doesn’t even have a hook.
Drake continues to rewrite streaming history. His latest single, “Make Them Cry,” posted 13.2 million global Spotify streams on May 15th, officially becoming the biggest streaming day ever for a hip-hop song on the platform.
The previous record holder was Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which dominated streaming services throughout 2024. Now, Drake has reclaimed the crown with the opening track from ICEMAN.
What makes the achievement interesting is the kind of song “Make Them Cry” actually is. This isn’t some ultra-commercial club anthem loaded with gimmicks or hooks designed for TikTok clips. The track is pure rap. No chorus. No giant feature. Just Drake rapping over a smooth, elegant instrumental while delivering reflective bars, sharp punchlines, and plenty of introspection.
As the intro to ICEMAN, the song immediately establishes the project’s tone. Drake sounds focused, personal, and fully locked into the rap side of his artistry. Whether people love the album or not, listeners clearly showed up for this record in massive numbers.
