This might be the smoothest toxic relationship song you’ll hear all year.
Over the last few years, Akanimo has quietly built an impressive catalog that showcases his ability to move between genres without losing his identity. The Charlotte native continues that trend with “Crazy Work,” a track that combines sharp songwriting with one of the best instrumentals I’ve heard recently.
The production is absolutely stunning. From the sleek pacing to the luxurious atmosphere, everything about the beat feels polished and deliberate. It’s the kind of instrumental that immediately pulls you into its world.
Over that backdrop, Akanimo reflects on a complicated situationship plagued by bad communication, mixed signals, hypocrisy, and emotional confusion. Despite the heavy subject matter, he never sounds overwhelmed. Instead, he rides the production with a cool confidence that makes the track incredibly easy to enjoy.
The chorus features melodic vocals that give me Kid Cudi vibes, while the verses showcase a rapper who knows exactly how to work within a beat’s pocket. Every line feels natural, and every performance choice serves the song.
“Crazy Work” is a total package. With its beautiful instrumentation, relatable themes, and Akanimo’s effortless style, this track deserves attention.
