Steve Lacy Gets Lost in Uncertainty on “The Feeling”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
Steve Lacy

Am I your baby, or is the feeling one sided?

Steve Lacy has a way of making uncertainty sound beautiful, and The Feeling is a perfect example of that. From the moment the track begins, it pulls you into a hazy, daydream-like atmosphere. The production is light, floaty, and effortlessly cool, carrying that signature Steve Lacy sound that fans have come to know and love.

Lyrically, the song explores one of the most frustrating situations you can find yourself in: having strong feelings for someone while having absolutely no clue where their head is at. Steve sings from the perspective of someone who is fully invested, someone who knows what they want, but cannot seem to get a straight answer from the person they’re falling for. There is affection, hope, and devotion here, but there is also confusion.

At its core, the song asks a simple but painful question: Are we on the same page? He wants to be close to this person and build something real with them, but the mixed signals leave him questioning everything. Am I your person, or am I just someone you’re keeping around until something better comes along? That uncertainty hangs over the entire track and gives it its emotional weight.

What really makes the song work is Steve’s delivery. He has always been great at blending melancholy with vulnerability, and he does it again here. There is a pleading quality to his voice, but it never feels dramatic. Instead, it feels genuine, like someone quietly wrestling with their emotions while trying to keep their cool.

The Feeling is dreamy, relatable, and emotionally rich. It captures that awkward space between hope and heartbreak better than most artists can. If this track is any indication of what’s coming next, I am officially excited for the new album.
