Can “Kodak The Blessing” shift attention away from Kodak Black’s recent headlines?
Kodak Black has officially announced his next album, Kodak The Blessing, which is set to arrive on June 12.
The announcement comes during a turbulent stretch for the Florida rapper. Over the past month, Kodak has made headlines largely for the wrong reasons. On May 7, he was arrested on a drug trafficking charge, just eight days after being arrested on an MDMA-related charge. Unfortunately, situations like these have become a recurring part of the Kodak Black conversation. While few question his talent as a rapper, it can be difficult to fully embrace his music when his off-the-mic issues consistently dominate the headlines.
Still, Kodak remains one of the most naturally gifted artists in hip-hop, and a new album always generates interest. Kodak The Blessing will serve as his first full-length release since last year’s Just Getting Started, a project that featured appearances from Chance The Rapper, Gunna, Pharrell Williams, Don Toliver, Lil Yachty, and several other notable artists. The album also produced fan-favorite tracks such as “Still Get Chanel” and “I’mma Shoot,” the latter being one of the project’s strongest records.
A few details about the project are already available. Kodak The Blessing will contain 26 tracks and feature guest appearances from Fridayy, 1900Rugrat, Rylo Rodriguez, and more. The album artwork is also eye-catching, showing Kodak holding a guitar colored like the American flag while standing beside a tree featuring an apple and a snake, imagery that appears to reference themes of temptation, redemption, and America itself.
One thing Kodak has never lacked is material to rap about. On June 12, listeners will get a chance to hear what chapter comes next.
