What a strange song…
The people managing Nipsey Hussle’s catalog deserve credit. Since his death in 2019, they’ve been selective with what they’ve released, making each posthumous appearance feel meaningful rather than excessive. That trend continues as Nipsey Hussle and Bino Rideaux gear up for their upcoming album Prolific, arriving August 14. Their latest preview comes in the form of “Sacrifices.”
The production immediately stands out. It’s smooth, soulful, and built around a sample that feels almost spiritual. The beat glides along effortlessly, creating a peaceful backdrop for the song’s reflective themes.
What makes “Sacrifices” work is the combination of different textures. Nipsey attacks the beat with his signature conviction and grit; Bino counters with melodic vocals that add vulnerability; and James Fauntleroy delivers subtle harmonies that bring warmth to the track.
The song centers on the complexities of relationships, highlighting how easily love can shift between healthy and unhealthy dynamics. Although it runs a little longer than I’d prefer and occasionally feels overly mellow, there’s enough substance here to make it worth revisiting.
