
The New Legends program creates opportunities for emerging HBCU talent.
Motown Records is investing in the next generation of music industry leaders.
This month, the iconic label unveiled the New Legends Internship Program, a 10-week initiative aimed at connecting students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities with career opportunities in the music business. The program officially began on June 8 and will continue through August 14.
The reality is that many aspiring music executives, marketers, and creatives struggle to gain meaningful industry experience early in their careers. Motown’s new program is designed to help close that gap by giving students direct access to the company’s day-to-day operations.
Participants will rotate through several key areas of the business, including Marketing, Creative, Digital, and A&R. They’ll also receive mentorship from industry professionals while contributing to active projects throughout the summer.
The inaugural class includes students from Howard University, Morgan State University, North Carolina A&T State University, and Spelman College. These students will receive firsthand exposure to the many career paths available within modern music.
For a company whose history is built around discovering and developing talent, the New Legends Internship Program feels like a natural extension of that mission. Instead of focusing solely on artists, Motown is helping cultivate the executives, strategists, and creatives who could shape the industry’s future.
