Damn, I haven’t heard from Masego since he dissed Drake.
If you made a list of the most talented R&B artists today, Masego would have a strong argument for a spot near the top. His ability to blend smooth vocals, impressive musicianship, and unexpected creative choices has set him apart from many of his peers. His latest single, “Breathe,” keeps that momentum alive.
The track opens with production that immediately creates a strong mood. It feels rich, emotional, and almost hypnotic. Masego matches that energy with a fantastic vocal performance filled with passion, control, and vulnerability.
Throughout “Breathe,” Masego tells the story of someone who has reached their breaking point in a relationship. He acknowledges the emotional distance between him and his partner while making it clear that he won’t continue allowing himself to be hurt.
The record also features some clever musical details. Masego incorporates melodies that feel reminiscent of Jazmine Sullivan’s “Pick Up Your Feelings” and adds an interesting twist by incorporating elements inspired by Ne-Yo’s “Closer.”
From the production to the vocals, “Breathe” feels like another win for Masego.
