“Hopeful Studies” is a powerful reminder that meaningful hip-hop still has a place in today’s music landscape.
There are not many hip-hop songs I’ve heard in my life that genuinely made me want to say “amen,” but “Hopeful Studies” is one of them. Superior and Let the Dirt Say Amen deliver something that feels more like a spiritual experience than a regular rap track.
The production is beautifully stripped back, allowing the choir to take center stage and create a haunting atmosphere that immediately grabs your attention. Somehow, despite having such a powerful backdrop, our hero MC never gets overshadowed. He does exactly what he does best: delivers sharp, thoughtful, and deeply reflective bars.
Throughout the track, he reflects on seeing through the nonsense around him, overcoming struggles, and staying aware through life’s challenges. His writing feels wise and intentional, with every line carrying weight. What I enjoy most is how effortlessly he delivers his message. He does not rush anything, instead using a steady flow and calm confidence that makes every word hit harder.
There is a classic East Coast grit throughout his performance that longtime hip-hop fans will appreciate. “Hopeful Studies” feels like a reminder of why lyricism, honesty, and soul still matter in rap.
