Beyoncé really woke up and decided everyone’s Fourth of July playlist needed an upgrade.
It’s safe to say Beyoncé fans weren’t expecting to wake up on the Fourth of July to a brand-new song. Yet “MORNING DEW (DONK)” arrived out of nowhere, instantly becoming one of the day’s biggest musical talking points. Better yet, the song proves the wait was absolutely worthwhile.
Long rumored after previous teases, “MORNING DEW (DONK)” is reportedly set to appear on the 20th anniversary edition of B’DAY. Considering how beloved that album remains, the addition of previously unheard material makes the upcoming release even more exciting.
The production is the s**t. Pharrell helps craft an elegant instrumental built around gorgeous melodies, subtle grooves, and polished textures that complement Beyoncé’s vocal performance.
As expected, Beyoncé sounds phenomenal. Her performance is relaxed but incredibly commanding, proving once again she puts beats on leashes whenever she wants to. Every note feels effortless while the songwriting keeps the emotional focus front and center.
On America’s 250th birthday, leave it up to B to remind us all that she is one of the best people the country has ever made.
