Elton John is set to briefly revive his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour with two emotional comeback shows in Mexico City this October, marking a long-delayed farewell.
Sir Elton John is reviving the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour for two nights only as he finally bids farewell to Mexico.
The 79-year-old music legend was forced to cancel the Mexico dates of his final global tour in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he is now set to return with two performances at Mexico City’s Banorte Stadium on October 2 and 3.
He announced on Instagram:
“I am excited to announce that I will be performing two nights at Banorte Stadium on 2 and 3 October.
“Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart. I was truly disappointed that the pandemic kept me from touring Latin America during my Farewell tour, which makes this return especially meaningful. I’m thrilled to finally share this very special moment with my fans after all these years…
“Rocket Club members can register now for early access. Join now via the link in my bio. Artist presale begins Wednesday, July 15 at 12pm local time in Mexico City.”
Tickets will go on sale to the general public on July 16 at 12pm local time.
The “Rocket Man” singer stepped away from touring three years ago, wrapping up his massive Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour after more than 300 shows.
Despite reducing his live performances, Elton has shown no signs of slowing down creatively.
He recently revealed that he quietly completed a brand-new album, which only came together after his eyesight struggles forced him to completely change his creative process.
While accepting the prestigious Glenn Gould Prize at the Theatre at Great Canadian Casino Resort in Toronto in May, the “I’m Still Standing” hitmaker explained that his eye condition prevented him from using his traditional lyric-first approach.
He told the audience:
“I’ve had eye trouble recently, and I always make records by looking at lyrics and writing to lyrics, and so I’m kind of f***** at the moment.”
For the first time in his five-decade career, Elton had to completely change his songwriting method.
“What my eye has given me is a chance of, at 80 years of age, completely reversing how I write. I’m writing melodies first, and lyrics coming second. I’ve never done that. And I’ve just done it.”
The adjustment sparked a creative breakthrough, resulting in an album he described as unlike anything he has created before.
“I’ve just done an album, which is so different to anything I’ve ever done before, but it’s so happy. I’m so thrilled with it because it’s given me another chance to make music.”
Elton’s eyesight issues began in the summer of 2024 after an infection left him blind in his right eye.
Meanwhile, reports have suggested Elton could also be heading toward a hologram residency in Las Vegas featuring technology more advanced than ABBA Voyage.
The “Candle in the Wind” singer is reportedly linked to a major deal for a show at the upcoming Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas.
The production is expected to feature digital versions of Elton, with collaborators Dua Lipa and Kiki Dee also appearing as holograms.
A source said:
“Elton, Dua and Kiki will be holograms. It’s similar to the ABBA Voyage show in London, but far more advanced as the technology has come on so much.”
The source added that the project would move away from a traditional residency format and instead deliver a fully immersive experience.
ABBA Voyage launched in 2022, featuring digital versions of the Swedish pop group performing alongside their original vocals through advanced motion-capture technology.
