Why can’t I root for both Pharrell and Chad?
Music fans (And fake ones, like myself) have waited a long-ass time for Chad Hugo to release something under his own name, and “Jumpupw!nya” proves the wait was worthwhile.
Featuring Tierra Whack and Leikeli47, the record blends inventive production with fearless performances from two artists perfectly suited for Hugo’s wacky vision.
Known for helping build the legendary catalogs of The Neptunes and N.E.R.D., Hugo enters his solo era with the same adventurous spirit that made him one of music’s most celebrated producers. His production bounces with quirky textures, infectious rhythms, and enough energy to keep the record moving from beginning to end. If robots were real, this would be the s**t they would f**k us up to in dance competitions.
Tierra Whack and Leikeli47 elevate the song even further, delivering punchy verses filled with confidence and personality. Their chemistry complements Hugo’s playful production, creating a track that might f**k you up if you aren’t fully awake.
I hate that Pharrell and Chad broke up, but seeing both hold their own is definitely satisfying.
