Telling Tay-K to have a Snickers would’ve gone a long way.

Look, I’ll be blunt: the chances of Tay-K getting out of jail anytime soon are looking slimmer than rookie year Kevin Durant. But if there is a chance, I’m sure he’ll want to continue building his rap career. It’s crazy to think about how bright his future looked when he dropped “The Race,” a song that ironically detailed some of the circumstances that led to him ending up behind bars.

Now, Tay K is back with “Punch You Down,” his third single of the year. The track is built around an edgy, rock-influenced hip-hop beat, and he leans fully into the aggression that helped make his name in the first place. The raw recording adds another layer to the song, with the vocals sounding like they may have been captured outside a traditional studio setting.

Lyrically, Tay K raps about fighting enemies and putting them in the dirt, while the catchy chorus gives the track something easy to latch onto. The Greek mythology-inspired concept also adds an interesting wrinkle to the song.

Will “Punch You Down” help his case? Absolutely not. But musically, it keeps Tay K’s signature sound alive.
