Tyga’s “$TARFACE” Fails to Chart After Moving Under 2,000 Units in First Week

Other than Tyga’s immediate family, who decided to cop this album?

Tyga’s latest album $TARFACE is off to a rough start commercially, as the project reportedly failed to land on this week’s Billboard 200 after moving fewer than 2,000 units in its first week.

That result comes after $TARFACE already generated plenty of conversation because Pitchfork gave the album a shocking 0.0 rating (Yes, an actual zero). We also gave it a very generous D-, which seems to be the highest grade out there.

Tyga later confirmed that AI was used during the making of $TARFACE, explaining that they “definitely used AI as a tool.” He compared the technology to Auto-Tune and argued that innovation is often criticized before artists figure out how to use it properly.

Look, did I expect Tyga to do 100K in the first week with this album? No. As a matter of fact, I’m surprised someone even cleared the album, if we’re being honest.

Now, if this was simply a passion project Tyga had always wanted to make for fun, then I don’t think the numbers should matter much at all. What bothers me more is the question of authenticity, because I think its absence can really rub people the wrong way. Will Tyga survive this? Of course. But I don’t think the $TARFACE chapter is something he’ll be able to completely wipe away.

Moral of the story: Never tell the truth about anything.
