Mariah Carey Turns Up the Heat With Rochelle Jordan on “Didn’t Mean To Turn You On”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Mariah Carey is giving an old favorite a fresh coat of R&B gloss.

Mariah Carey is back with a remix of her 2001 track “Didn’t Mean To Turn You On,” and honestly, I am kinda living for this update.

The revamped track featuring Rochelle Jordan feels more sultry, still very pop, but leaning more into the R&B flow. It feels even more sensual than the original, more mature, but in the best way. The production gives the song a refreshed feel without losing what made the original so fun in the first place.

Rochelle adds another element to the track, amping it up even more. Her vocals fit right into Mariah’s world, while also giving the song its own little twist. There’s something really fun about hearing these two voices together, especially on a song that already had plenty of flirtation and attitude. It feels like an update rather than a complete overhaul, which I think is exactly what this track needed.

Overall, this track is an absolute banger, even 25 years later. It’s sultry, catchy, nostalgic, and still ridiculously fun. Honestly? If you catch me dancing in my car with Mariah blasting through the speakers, mind ya business. I’m busy.
