A Florida connection, label history, and one extremely unexpected guest-list decision collide on this remix.
Yung Miami is bringing Lil Baby and Kodak Black onto the remix of her viral hit “Spend Dat,” with the new version set to drop this Friday. The collaboration gives one of hip-hop’s biggest surprise songs of the year two major additions, making this an interesting release to watch as Miami continues riding the momentum behind the original.
Right now, “Spend Dat” is competing with probably “Janice STFU” for the most successful hip-hop song of the year, which is honestly a pretty wild sentence to write. Still, there’s no denying the song’s impact. It went viral, inspired tons of TikToks, and has been referenced by numerous artists, turning Miami’s track into a genuine cultural moment.
The remix also makes sense when you look at the connections. Kodak Black is from Florida, just like Yung Miami, while Lil Baby and Miami were both signed to the same label for years. There’s enough history between everyone involved to make the collaboration feel pretty natural.
What I find most interesting is that Miami appears to be keeping the remix relatively uneventful. Considering how massive “Spend Dat” has become, I expected the remix to feature some huge surprise or completely change the song’s formula. Instead, she’s bringing in two recognizable rappers and letting them work within what already made the song successful.
There’s also the funny fact that “Spend Dat” is a song about dudes spending money on their women, yet the remix features Yung Miami alongside two dudes. You would think another woman would be an obvious addition, but apparently not.
Whatever the case may be, this will be one of the more interesting releases of the weekend. “Spend Dat” already has momentum, and Lil Baby and Kodak could give it another push.
