I’ve always been bad at goodbyes.

ChanellfullofSoul turns the end of a relationship into a poetic, soulful farewell on “Summers Over,” a hypnotic R&B track about accepting that some beautiful things aren’t meant to last.

This track reads like poetry, first of all. The lyrics are simple and easy to understand, but they’re delivered with such elegance and softness that they really stick with you. I love the moody intro, with its mysterious piano leading into a much fuller, rounder sound. There’s something about that progression that pulls you into the story before you even realize it.

“Summers Over” speaks of a relationship that’s coming to an end. For whatever reason, this was never meant to be a permanent thing, and it’s like both parties are aware of that but still in denial. The track recounts the beautiful moments the couple experienced together while also dissecting the feelings that come with their season reaching its end. It’s complicated but final. You’ve made peace with it, but it still hurts a bit.

Sonically, this track is hypnotic, blending soulful R&B with jazzy undertones. The production feels a little overwhelming during the first chorus, but the beat that comes in for the second verse really pulls everything together. By the end, I was sold.

ChanellfullofSoul knows how to communicate emotion and pull you into a story. Summer may be over, but new adventures lie ahead.
