If you’re a fan of both KATSEYE and Disney, this new merch drop was made for you.
Ahead of KATSEYE’s new Hulu documentary—KATSEYE: Wild Hearts—they’re releasing a new merch collaboration featuring Disney’s most iconic characters: Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
This limited-edition collection drops on October 15th at noon Eastern Time on Complex.com, with items ranging in price from $40 to $100. The collection features graphic tees, hoodies, tank tops, tote bags, and enamel pins.
KATSEYE previously performed a cover of “I Won’t Say (I’m In Love)” from Hercules during the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony to honor Susan Egan, who voices Megara. Just yesterday, they released the Lara Raj-written track “Unloveu.”
I have mixed feelings about this collab. On the one hand, the merch is cute, and I love both KATSEYE and Mickey and Minnie. On the other hand, aside from the group name, this collab really has nothing to do with KATSEYE. No pictures of the girls, no song titles, not even references to the documentary this is promoting. It’s just pictures of Mickey and Minnie that say “KATSEYE.” The design is cute, but is it really necessary? It doesn’t feel particularly creative.
On the other hand, some people will definitely eat this up, and that’s great for them. KATSEYE’s younger fanbase will probably like this more than me, so maybe this is more geared towards them. I do think that there could be fun pictures of Mickey and Minnie doing the dances, references to the songs (even just eating foods from “Gnarly”), or anything other than the group name “KATSEYE.”
Whether or not you like the merch line, this is a big week for KATSEYE fans. Between the Disney collab, “Unloveu,” and KATSEYE: Wild Hearts heading to streaming on October 16th, we are being fed this week, and I’m here for it.
