PlaqueBoyMax and Jacquees Team Up for “Familiar” and “She Know”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Two smooth R&B collaborations that pair Jacquees’ polished vocals with PlaqueBoyMax’s laid-back confidence.

You can argue that PlaqueBoyMax is one of the most important hip-hop figures in the game today. I can’t say I love that, but it is what it is. Some of his collaborations feel like clout-chasing to me. One pairing I’m more interested in, though, is him and Jacquees. They recently linked up for “Familiar” and “She Know.”

“Familiar” features elegant R&B production and a slick Jacquees performance. He sounds comfortable over the backdrop, while PlaqueBoyMax adds a slippery verse that fits, even if his delivery reminds me of every other YN getting near a microphone.

“She Know” moves into silky-smooth slow-jam territory. Jacquees sounds right at home, bringing the vocal polish this setting needs. PlaqueBoyMax gets in where he fits in, adding confidence without throwing off the mood.

All in all, these are cool little experiments. I understand the pairing, and Jacquees gives both tracks something to appreciate. I just don’t see myself rushing to replay either one. Maybe they’ll do more for you than they did for me.
