The Good, The Bad and The Ugly from this week.
WORST SONG
DAv1D AND BIZARRE – SNIPER (F**K MACHINE GUN KELLY)
As you may know, Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly are involved in one of the most heinous white rap beefs of all time. During last week, people were slapped, a few shots were taken, and allies were formed. One of Eminem’s allies, Bizarre, decided to get in on all the action with some new-coming rapper named Dav1d, and together, they created perhaps the weakest diss record to-date. Both rappers fail to rhyme on their parts, throw out weak ass disses, and majority of time sound like sickos. In my opinion, the song was the epitome of an epic fail, and at the time, I actually gave Machine Gun Kelly a point for it.
REIGNING CHAMP: DAv1D AND BIZARRE – SNIPER (F**K MACHINE GUN KELLY)
WORST ALBUM
WALE – FREE LUNCH
My beef with this EP is more about Wale never living up to his potential. Time and time again, I felt like Wale was about to break-out with the musical equivalent to a 50 point game, but he keeps ending up with pedestrian numbers. In my opinion, “Free Lunch” was a very pedestrian effort from him: It featured forgettable songs, wacky deliveries and gibberish sprinkled throughout. I’m starting to believe Wale will never live up to the hype, guys.
TOP LYRICAL SONG
J. COLE – MY BOY
Though Wale’s “Free Lunch” won worst album of the week (Do we call that winning?), There was a song on there called “My Boy” that featured a verse by J. Cole that had my jaw dropped! His punchlines were great, his relentlessness in his delivery was fire, and most importantly, his cleverness was on fleek. It was definitely one of the best verses I heard this year from anyone not named Royce Da 5’9.
REIGNING CHAMP: ROYCE DA 5’9/EMINEM – CATERPILLAR
TOP BEAT
LIL BABY & GUNNA – DRIP TOO HARD
I thought Lil Baby and Gunna’s drop too hard was a very solid beat. It featured your signature trap elements, but also this sensual sound that you would think was foreign to both mumbling ass rappers. This beat was definitely better than the two people featured on it.
REIGNING CHAMP: JEFE
TOP INDIE EFFORT
FINESSEN – SIDNEY POITIER
Finessen is a star. I think he has the swag, the musical know-how and bravado to be the next great thing in hip hop. In “Sidney Poitier,” he lives all the way up to his potential, as he gives us something catchy, but also silky smooth and debonair. If you like music that you can chill out and smoke a cigar to, this is definitely it!

TOP SONG
KODAK BLACK, BRUNO MARS & GUCCI MANE – WAKE UP IN THE SKY
The moment I pressed play on this joint, I proclaimed this to be one of the best songs I heard this year! It features unique personalities, pimpadocios words, and a vibe so smooth that I almost asked it out on a date. Out of all the choices I had to make this week, this one was the easiest.
REIGNING CHAMPION: GOD’S PLAN/IN MY FEELINGS
TOP ALBUM
6LACK – EAST ATLANTA LOVE LETTER
You know what? This was an easy choice, too. East Atlanta Love Letter is near flawless music to me, as it features tracks about flossing, heartbreak and mastering your craft, with each element being meshed together so well that you can’t decipher them from one another. Aside from that, the singing and rapping you get from 6LACK is damn there flawless, and the vibes you get throughout is consistent. I like consistency.
REIGNING CHAMPION: PUSHA-T (DAYTONA)
Make sure you see next’s week edition of the awards to see if any of the songs above can be topped!
