RGM Weekly Awards (6/21): Tyla, Lupe Fiasco & Tyler, The Creator Dominate the Week

We give out awards for the best album, best single, best album cover, best feature, and best submission of the week.

Best Album Cover of the Week: The Alchemist – LIQUID FORM

I swear to God, I laughed my ass off for five minutes looking at The Alchemist’s cover for LIQUID FORM. It’s like an operation being done on Hollow Man by, I don’t want to sound racist at all here, but what looks like some Asian doctors. I need to know what inspired this. I need to know why this is happening. I need to know why I like this s**t this much.

Runner Up: Ye – BULLY (Deluxe)

Best Feature of the Week: Tyler, The Creator On YG’s “ON THE LOW”

There were a lot of strange things about YG’s THE GENTLEMEN’S CLUB, including all the damn whispering he does on “ON THE LOW,” but one thing that was extremely solid was Tyler, The Creator’s guest appearance on the track. I love that he chose not to whisper and instead came through with his most Cali-sounding voice and slickest bars, once again reminding everyone that he’s a straight man who chases women. On the low (no pun intended), Tyler has been absolutely killing features lately.

Runner Up: ScHoolboy Q on Lance Skiiwalker’s – Keep It On!!!

Best Submission of the Week: Lily Lane – So Long, California

There’s something special about songs that feel like they come straight from the heart, and “So Long, California” is exactly that. In the track, Lily reflects on leaving California after realizing the dream she chased there didn’t fully become what she imagined. Now in New York, the timing couldn’t be better, especially if she got to experience that Knicks parade. Beyond the story, the lyrics feel deeply personal, honest, and emotionally real, making the song connect on a genuine level.

Remember to Submit Your Music to us HERE. We listen to EVERYTHING that comes through!

Runner Up: Loding – In The Light

Best Single of The Week: TYLA – IS IT LOVE

I’m convinced that Tyla has never made a bad song in her life. Seriously, every time she drops a single, it’s promoted well, creates a huge moment, and is just flat-out good music. “IS IT LOVE” checks every one of those boxes. On top of that, Tyla pushes her vocals even further, showing off her impressive range over beautiful Afrobeats-inspired production. Yeah, I think this is another major hit.

Runner Up: AZ Chike – Packed Up

Best Album: Lupe Fiasco – Live From Miami Beach

I know technically this isn’t a major release, but this album was awesome. On it, we get a collection of live, beautiful renditions of some of Lupe Fiasco’s best tracks, including “Kick Push,” “Superstar,” and “Daydreaming.” With Lupe Fiasco’s charisma and the absolutely incredible performances from Nu Deco Ensemble, these renditions become unforgettable listens. No exaggeration at all: I almost cried listening to “Daydreamin’.”

Runner Up: Tierra Whack – WHACK’S MUSEUM
