OVERALL RATING (????????)

If you are on the edge of breaking up with someone that isn’t great for your health, “Ode To J” should strike a chord with you.

In 2014, Omar Merlo and Jaka Levstek, two well-established musicians from London, decided to create Hyde Out, an indie pop-rock band that makes music that is complex, compelling, and wide-ranging. What you will appreciate about the band is that they draw inspiration from timeless UK bands like Radiohead, Keane, and Blur. On Ode To J, Hyde Out’s latest album, they find very unique ways to talk about love, heartbreak, and everything in-between. One of my favorite tracks from the album is the very dynamic “Ode To J.”

“Ode To J” is about kicking someone to the curb because they don’t quite know how to treat you with the respect that you deserve. What I love about the song is that it is powered by an instrumental that boasts everything from Latin jazz to blue-eyed soul to alternative rock vibes. I also love the song’s unapologetic lyrics and intoxicating melodies.
