Benny The Butcher continues his dominance with “The Plugs I Met 2.”

HONORABLE MENTION. LIVE BY IT
Benny The Butcher makes his case for the trillest rapper in the game in “Live By It.”
I’ve always felt like Benny The Butcher and his Griselda homies reminded me of G-Unit. Well, if you ask me, “Live By It” sounds like the ultimate G-Unit track. It features a hook that I can see a young 50 Cent dropping (Especially when it comes to him doubling his vocals), a beat that Sha Money XL or DJ Clark Kent would make, and of course, hood war time lyrics.
3. WHEN TONY MET SOSA
Benny The Butcher stays going hard on his intros.
“When Tony Met Sosa” opens up The Plugs I Met 2 very rivetingly. Not only is the song powered by a beat that is both jazzy and climactic, but it also features lyrics by Benny The Butcher that should definitely let you know that his street resume is as shiny as any other’s resume in the game.
You’re going to love the precision, relentlessness, and confidence that Benny raps with on “When Tony Met Sosa.” You can tell that he was gassed up like s**t when he wrote the song.
2. PLUG WALK
Benny The Butcher and 2 Chainz absolutely go off in “Plug Walk.”
“Plug Walk” features an opulent beat, a very catchy hook, tricky flows, and everything from celebratory to braggadocios to hood-authentic lyrics. While Benny provides the track with boatloads of aggression, 2 Chainz provides the track with boatloads of slyness.
How many rappers are going to drop a song called “Plug Walk?”
1. THANKSGIVING
Benny saved the best for last with “Thanksgiving.”
No, Benny The Butcher doesn’t talk about turkey and collard greens in “Thanksgiving;” Instead, he talks about rappers being jealous of him, about his plug days, and about his foot therapy. As usual, Benny hits us with sturdy flows and perfect rhymes (Like, literally perfect rhymes. I’m starting to think that dude is the second-coming of Dr. Seuss). He also hits us with a hook that straddles the line between simple and catchy.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Benny The Butcher is a top 5 rapper in the game right now. I’m being completely honest with you when I tell you that I haven’t heard a bad verse by him. With that being said, in The Plugs I Met 2, Benny continues to show the world that he is fantastic at crafting verses that are full of hood-captivating lyrics, unbreakable flows, killer punchlines, and confident deliveries.
While most of your kudos should go to Benny The Butcher, please give Harry Fraud his flowers for the work that he did on this album. The Plugs I Met 2 features some of the most timeless-sounding/cinematic/gripping instrumentals that I’ve ever heard. It’s obvious that Fraud wanted to bring out the action-hero in Benny by blessing him with beats that are action-packed.
There are a few rappers that do work on The Plugs I Met 2 (Chinx, 2 Chainz, Fat Joe, French Montana (French puts up a pretty solid verse on “Talkin Back”), Jim Jones, and Rick Hyde). While each person has a notable verse on the album, at the end of the day, none of them outdo Benny The Butcher. So, on the real, I don’t think that this album needed features like that…
I find it unbelievable that Benny The Butcher can still channel a sound that is gritty as hell, even though his star is shining brighter than it ever has. What that tells me is that he truly loves what the streets offered him during his come-up. Whatever the case may be, Benny is truly winning by knowing how to translate his ups-and-downs into high-quality rap music.
