DAP (Diamonds Are Pressure)

Emi Secrest

An R&B single about tapping into our inner strength.

Los Angeles-based musical creative, Emi Secrest, is a singer and songwriter who crafts “soul music.” In her music, the Memphis, Tennessee native puts her southern roots and culture center stage. Throughout her career, Secrest has provided supporting vocals for Grammy Award-winning artists like Christina Aguilera, Kanye West, John Legend, and Macy Gray. She’s also a recurring cast member on Hulu’s The D’Amelio Show, where she serves as Charli’s vocal coach. Her music discography, however, is separate from her acting career. Her songs are available on Spotify, SoundCloud, and her own website. Emi Secrest’s latest drop is the R&B single “DAP (Diamonds Are Pressure).”

While this song contains R&B elements, there are hints of soul and southern charm written in too. “DAP” provides this soulful blend that helps us reflect on an emotionally charged realization of honesty and relationships. Lyrics like “Players play the same old games, Life will have you switching lanes, Can you trust everything you see?” and “You ain’t did enough, It’s too late to make it up, Diamonds are pressure, I just need my space, you can keep that energy” reflect on dealing with struggles and discovering your inner strength. At the same time, there’s a lack of brutal truth that has led Secrest to this point. What it is, we don’t exactly know. Still, these powerful declarations insist that we can emerge from our hardships stronger than ever. So, press play below to embrace your inner sparkle with “DAP.”
