Rain
Despot & Lil Yachty
What in the name of Saturday morning cartoons is this?
Lil Yachty might be the MVP of this rap s**t this year. At the top of it, he dropped a fantastic album in Let’s Start Here. Since then, he has dropped a hot-ass project with JID and some very good singles such as “Tesla” and “Warriors.” Today, “Rain,” a very unique collaboration track he did with Despot, hit streaming services.
First and foremost, kudos must go to sadpony for creating the beat that powers this song. It’s quirky and borderline weird as f**k. While Yachty does try to outweird the beat initially with a very choppy vocal performance, he does hit us with a tough-ass rap verse that has him proclaiming his greatness and patting himself on the back for some of the epic s**t he was able to do in the past couple of years. As for Despot, he hits us with a pretty normal verse with aggressive flows and all kinds of underdog lyrics. While I wouldn’t say the chemistry between the two artists is amazing, I do applaud their creativity.
Lil Yachty really be hopping on mics not giving a f**k (It’s actually commendable).
